June 1st - Aug 13th:  Summer Session

Welcome to Mercury Gymnastics

The health and well- being of our students and families continues to be our FIRST priority, and we have FINALLY entered the home stretch for beginning our summer session June 1st, 2020!  We look forward to reconnecting with everyone and remain optimistic that restrictions will continue to be lifted and we can get back to our normal routines.

I would like to share our plans for reopening for our preschool, school age boys and girls, tumbling, and lower levels of precompetitive programs and classes.

Because of the Kansas City 10/10/10 guidelines Mercury will accommodate the student to facility ratio.  At this time, under Missouri guidelines Mercury is allowed to have 83 people in our 25,000 square foot facility.   Procedures will look quite a bit different as we have made changes to allow for social distancing throughout our program. While this will be challenging the first few weeks, it is definitely not impossible!

I would like to share just a few of the many things we have done to reach our goals for reopening.  The health and safety of our gymnasts and staff will always be number one.  Clean gym, Clean staff, Clean gymnasts.

  • First, we are asking our customers to participate in our drop off/pick up car loop.  This will be monitored by a Mercury staff member making sure that when your gymnast exits the car they will be guided safely into Mercury front foyer doors. Please try to be 5 minutes early to drop off your gymnast before their class. At this time, families will NOT be allowed into the gym to accommodate our student to facility ratio.  Because of this, Mercury will hold off on all our Mini Moon classes until our capacity restrictions are increased.  We are very optimistic that our Mini Moon program will be back this summer so please look for updates on our website. Mercury will always provide not only a clean environment, but a safe one.

  • Upon entering, your gymnast will check in, and be guided to their coaches table for class.  They will take off shoes, hand sanitize and follow their coach downstairs for class.

  • All boys and girls will need to bring a labeled water bottle.  The drinking fountains will be closed for safety at this time.

  • Our lesson plans have been modified for individual stations.  Each gymnast will work at his or her station for 1 minute and then switch to their next station. Coaches will continue to assist our gymnasts with any challenging stations whenever needed. There will be all kinds of fun squares and dots and activities to SAFELY guide our gymnasts around the gym. All classes have been organized so that there is no waiting in line.

  • Hand washing and hand sanitizing will be done at the beginning of class, after each event and at the end of night before exiting the building.  All soap and hand sanitizers are EDC approved for children.

  • All families will be asked to accept our updated waiver which includes a COVID-19 section recommendation. Along with all our coaches and staff, we agree not to enter the building within 24 hours of a fever, a cough, adhering to the 14 day quarantine period if someone in your household has or had COVID 19, and acknowledging that even with our BEST intentions, there will be times when incidental contact breaks the 6 foot separation recommendation.

  • At the end of practice, coaches will check them out, hand sanitize and release them to families at the exit door. The exit door for all our gymnasts will be located at the Southwest door. Again, the coach will make sure your gymnast is safely guided to your families car.  As our reopening gets closer for our summer session all procedures will be outlined in greater detail.

  • Each coach will have tissues, hand sanitizer and a bottle of EDC disinfectant that they will be responsible for cleaning equipment and mats before moving to their next event. As a team, we are still working on the best possible night time sanitizing after everyone has exited the building.  All our disinfectants are EDC approved to kill not only the COVID virus but any other virus out there.  We will also have our nightly cleaning crew each night.

  • We know that these changes will take some getting used to.  In the meantime, we hope that we can remain an important part of your family’s schedule and provide a positive, supportive and healthy learning environment.

  • Make sure you log into your parent portal since it has changed.  This will allow you to make sure all your family information is up to date and your credit card is current.

  • Search for classes by your student.  This will let you know if age requirements are met for the classes.  There will be a cart timer set for 5 minutes.  Watch this time because it will time out after 5 minutes and you will lose your spot if your transaction is not complete.

  • Remember, at this time, there will be limited spots in each class until our ratio limits are increased – if you do not get into the class you want – DEFINITELY put your child on the wait list and we can add them in when our occupancy increases!

I will continue to send out any updates as changes will happen. All of us at Mercury Gymnastics have been working diligently to make sure when we open June 1st, we will be clean, we will be safe and we will have a plan in place to make sure our gymnasts are well cared for.

As always, if you have any questions please email

It is time to be back to the gym again.  Cannot wait to see all our gymnasts back to our beautiful sport.

Take Care,

Lauren Churchman

Mercury Gymnastics opened its doors in 1998 with the mission of providing a positive environment where young people can enhance their gymnastic, trampoline & tumbling, cheerleading skills and fitness in a safe and fun manner in our 25,000 square foot facility. We encourage and challenge every young person to achieve their "personal best" by strengthening their bodies, their self-esteem and their confidence. Mercury offers you and your children a clean, safe, and fun environment and the highest quality coaching staff in the Kansas City area.

Mercury Gymnastics also offers Shining Stars Academic Preschool.  Our goal is to provide your child with an enjoyable educational experience, equip them with the skills they need for future schooling, encourage their individual learning style, and offer an inviting atmosphere where your child feels at ease.  Our learning approach is a hands-on investigative learning program where children explore academics through various themes and projects. When children can recognize for themselves when and how to apply numerous skills - it fosters independence, builds confidence, allows them the ability to make decisions and problem solve.
